Dog Money closes Leesburg brewpub for good
Dog Money Restaurant & Brewery in Leesburg announced Tuesday that they were closing for good — another victim of the ongoing pandemic that has decimated many players in the restaurant industry.
The local eatery and brewery on Catoctin Circle NE originally opened in 2016. Today, they announced their closure.
“Having entered our fifth year of successful operation, it is with a combination of sadness and gratitude that founders Tim Regan and Dean Lake must announce the closing of Dog Money Restaurant & Brewery,” read a statement on social media. “Current harsh economic, health, and regulatory realities force our hands and those of our landlords to discontinue operations of a full-service brewpub restaurant in this location.”
“Opening and operating Dog Money restaurant and brewery has been an unforgettable adventure providing many good times for Tim, Dean, their families, and their dedicated staff,” the statement continued. “They all have been honored to serve the people of Leesburg, forming many friendships along the way. The abundant support Dog Money has received from the restaurant community, the brewing community, business partners, and the community at large the last four-plus years has been overwhelming. During COVID, our customers’ support was all the more generous and critical to our survival. We thank you.”
No word on what future tenant might move into the space.

My wife and I enjoyed many a meal and beer there. The staff always made it feel like your kitchen away from home. They will be sorely missed.
They’ve been struggling for longer than the pandemic has been going on. But ok good for them on timing the closing to coincide with the pandemic.
I’m tired of seeing “another victim of the pandemic” in relation to these absolutely terrible restaurants when they close.
Ruby Tuesdays was absolute trash and in a steep decline for nearly a full 2 years before the pandemic.
The pandemic is just the final nail in the coffin for these terrible restaurants who have been riding the struggle bus.
If I’m going to roll the dice to eat out and perhaps get COVID, you think I’m taking the risk on a Ruby Tuesdays or a hit and (mostly) miss Dog Money? Nah. I’m risking it for a reliable local favorite that is always good.
I suggest getting out there and talking to some of the owners of the local Leesburg and Ashburn restaurants. Many are understandably worried about the cooler weather months coming up, but they will also tell you that profits were up over the warmer summer months. I personally know one owner who went back into the black from being shut down from March to early June by mid-August. Locals will rally and support a GOOD local restaurant. Period.
